eating posh

It's 'wake-up' time but we are both feeling pretty ordinary after a shocker of a night. Can't make sense of the heating / cooling so comfort rating is ordinary in our room.

Anyway, while Maria keeps snoozing I thought I'd break the pattern and write a post in the morning to describe the amazing gastronomical experience that was last night.

Where do we start. 'Old England' style darkish room with a flock of immaculately presented table attendees. For much of the night i was the only male without a suit on - that kind of class.

We ended up with 10-12 courses although each was small by normal standards. Everything including stuff like wafers and butter is made in the kitchen. The flavours in each serve were so refined and balanced, each dish was worth writing home about in and of itself, let alone 10 of them.

Maria announced she liked caviar! No surprises there, her taste is always refined. The highlight for me was a crab ravioli with who knows what in the sauce, some injection of heaven on a spoon. I chose an option that matched a different wine with each dish. (not a full glass I might add) Again amazingly complementary.

Table attendees swooped at the slightest need. Whoops, crimped napkin? Can't have that, here's a fresh one, delivered with tongs. Need to go to the bathroom, 'here let me move the table out for you so you don't have to push your chair back!!!' This kind of service without feeling like it is intrusive, very impressive.

We got to tour the kitchen and meet Marcus, who, before this experience hadn't heard of, but is apparently world renowned. This restaurant was owned by Gordon Ramsay, who then worked with Marcus before the restaurant was renamed 'Marcus Wareing' a couple of years back.

So then we get to end of the evening and the bill folder simply contains a card from Mali. What a treat. She was clearly loved and missed by the comments of her passed colleagues including Marcus who talked about her bubbly personality.

It's not every day you get to dine at one of the world's top restaurants. We are thankful that yesterday was one of those perhaps once in a lifetime occasions.

Now it's nearly breakfast time. Hmmm. Maccas maybe?
