shake down

(written from memory 3 years later to complete the blog record)

We were so excited. With our new caravan, the Patrol to tow it, and dreams bursting from our hearts, Maria booked us into Inverloch for our first adventure. The weather was a shocker. It blew a gale and poured with rain. We put up the annex (as you do when you get a new van) ... one of the only times we have ever done so because we like to keep the outdoor area open. Maria got an electrical shock from a metal pole when setting it up in the thunder storm. I re-injured an already painful thumb jamming it in a hurry to get things done. Injury, misadventure and appalling weather did little to dampen our enthusiasm. Memorable moments included;

  • a visit from Mum and Dad, along with my sister Al, Jake and Mim

  • our neighbour playing classical music - very loud

  • fishing, and even snared a few fish, more good fortune than skill.

  • walking on the beach and bush tracks, riding our bikes

  • slipping on rocks and plunging one leg and arm into the cold sea, much to everyone else's amusement
